Budgeting Tips for Christmas

 Christmas Money Tips

By Salvation Army Financial Counsellor Maggie Ingham

 1. Do a budget allocating all monies to each of your commitments. (This is the most important thing to do before anything).

2. Look in your local paper as the local councils have a lot of free activities on during holidays.

3. Get the kids to help out with things around the house and make it fun for them. As a reward, take them on a picnic.

4. It is important to allocate a certain amount of money on holidays and to stay to that allocation.

5. If you are having trouble with covering bills during the Christmas and New Year, seek help from your local community centre (if you are unsure where they are located they can be found on our website: salvos.org.au/moneycare).

6. If you find that you have overcommitted yourself financially or have creditors or debt agencies calling you, contact a Financial Counselling service to get advice and guidance.

7. For more information and tips on money, finance and budgeting, check out the Moneysmart website or www.moneysmart.gov.au.
