A Parents Prayer - Ephesians 6

Use this prayer as a guide when you wake up in the morning.  Keep it on your bedside table or in your bathroom.  Speak these words from your heart befor eyou have the first minute of contact with your children so that the Lord will direct every interaction with them throughout the day.  You can pray this as a request, but more so, use it as a daily commitment. by Pastor Andy Johnson @ 2008

13Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints…

1. Lord, I want to take up your full armor today. I want to surround myself with the things of God so that my children will have a godly example before them at every moment of the day. I will be immovable, unshaken, and will stand firm in my biblical convictions so that I can guard myself and my family from evil.

2. I will walk in the truth today. Lead me in your truth today so that I can be a light for my children for truthfulness. I know that you delight yourself in the truth and I want you to delight in my life, so I want to live a truthful life. Please let my children see your truth in me.

3. Lord, I desire for my life to be characterized by righteousness. Please let my light shine before my children and let them wholeheartedly recognize your goodness because of it. Guard them from the effects of ungodly choices I make and lead me to repentance. Lord I know that like a breastplate, righteous living will guard me from fatal attacks from the Enemy.

4. I know that my security in you is grounded in the gospel, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Give me a mindset to boast in the cross every day. I will make that message preeminent in my house and show my children that it is the basis for a relationship with you.

5. I believe. I will not doubt you. I will trust you in every part of my life. As I trust you from moment to moment I know that you will use that trust to extinguish Satan’s flaming arrows. I trust you to work in my child’s life and to honor my efforts at being a godly parent. I trust you to protect them and I trust you to provide for my family’s every need.

6. I will put on the helmet of salvation today and ask that my children see the difference that salvation makes in my life. I pray that they will experience your saving grace through Jesus as well.

7. Lord, your Word is my guide all day long. I commit to hiding it in my heart and making it the main source of wisdom for my children. I commit to allowing it to guide my decisions as a parent, spouse, neighbor, and employee.

8. I will let prayer infiltrate my entire day. Remind me to pray, oh Lord, when I forget. Lead me to be sensitive to the prayer needs of my children and others I interact with. Make my family a praying family.
