Blacktown City Salvos has a ministry to the pubs of Blacktown and surrounding suburbs. Every Friday night several pubs are visited by some of our uniformed salvationists to be part of the community of Blacktown.

This provides an opportunity for the "locals" of our area to get to know some of the "locals" of our Corps (church). Through these meetings and conversations, the community gets to hear what we are doing first hand and sees the physical presence of the Salvation Army.

We visit these pubs with our national publication "The War Cry" and with copies of "Kidzone" for the young ones.

We are also a point of contact for donations. On a weekly basis, people donate to us for the support of our ministry and the work we do. Research reveals The Salvation Army is now one of Australia's most well-loved charities.

Why do you collect in pubs when you have a NO ALCOHOL stance?

The Salvation Army has required its members (soldiers and officers) to have total abstinence from alcohol. However, it does not prevent us from mixing socially with people who drink alcohol. The Salvation Army actually began a lot of its works out of pubs.

William Booth and other Christian Mission workers recognised this in the 1800's when they were first "reaching out" to others. They began to evangelise on the streets and in the pubs. They then invited the people to attend the larger gathering they would have.

Blacktown City Salvos is happy to continue on this tradition by being in the pubs of Blacktown and surrounding suburbs and we are always looking for volunteers. Or if you are in the pubs, we are looking forward to meeting with you.
