Aged Care

The future of our aged care services

The Salvation Army Board has decided to withdraw from residential aged care and home care services, and International Headquarters has approved the decision. Care continuity is our priority, and there are no plans for residents to move.

This was not an easy decision. The Salvation Army has a wider mission of spiritual and social transformation. We believe a provider whose key focus is aged care will be better placed to invest in the future, respond to the changing needs of the sector and ensure these services remain strong and sustainable for residents, clients and staff for years to come.

While this decision is sad for us, we believe it creates an opportunity for a provider whose key focus is aged care.

This decision is not a reflection of the quality of care our people provide. We are deeply proud of the dedication, professionalism and commitment of our aged care teams.

What this means for residents and clients

  • Care continuity is our priority. Our teams continue to provide the same quality care, and all quality, compliance and accreditation activities continue.
  • No one has to move. There are no plans for residents to move as a result of this decision.
  • Familiar faces. Our intention is that residents and clients keep seeing the same staff. Continuity of care and trusted relationships are a key priority.
  • Retirement living. Most of our retirement villages and independent living units are not affected and will remain with The Salvation Army. The exceptions are Woodport and Riverview Gardens, where residential aged care and retirement living will transition together.
  • NDIS. As our NDIS program works with individual clients, we will work with the NDIS team and clients to find the most appropriate solution and outcome for them as a result of the sale of Aged Care.

Transition process

We will look for a provider that shares our values, is committed to quality care, and values its employees and residents. We will work hard to find a new provider in early 2027. No provider has been selected yet.

The full transition may take up to two years. We will keep residents, clients and families informed as it progresses.
