There was a silly song we used to sing in Sunday School, you might know it: “Father Abraham had many sons...”
It goes on and on… “had many sons did father Abraham – I am one of them and so are you so lets all praise the Lord.” Repeat and repeat and repeat… (try not get that into your head)
I remember singing that when I was a kid and thinking to myself who is Abraham and what’s so important about him? Why would God choose him? And what can we learn from Abraham in regards to parenting?
Abraham was chosen by God for this purpose: Genesis 18:19
“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just….”
Today there are more pressures on families than ever before. The pressure to lead children and their families into doing what is right, just and true. These time pressures, financial concerns, temptations to compromise our Christian values and day to day demands make it impossible to be a perfect parent.
Yet God gives us enough guidance, examples to learn from and wisdom if we continue to prioritise God in our life. God our Father is the perfect example for us to reflect on and learn from. He is a loving father in heaven who wants to protect you and bless you!
And like in Genesis 18:19, He gives us a goal to aspire to. Take a moment now to reflect, learn from him and think how this looks in your life as a parent.
