A No Interest Loan Scheme is a safer way to pay for household items or car-related expenses. Loans are up to $2,000 and can be repaid over 12–24 months.

You can apply for a loan if you:

  • Are a low income earner / receive Centrelink benefits
  • Have lived at your current address for at least three months
  • Can pay back your loan over 12–24 months

Loans can be used for more than one item and are provided for essential needs, taking a person’s financial capacity to repay the loan into account.

If you are interested in a NILS loan, you will be asked to submit a loan application and provide several key documents, including:

  • Identification (100 points of ID)
  • Centrelink income statement (including Deduction Statement)
  • Pay slips (if you are employed)
  • Bank & Credit card statements
  • Details of any outstanding loans, including advances from Centrelink
  • Quotes from suppliers for the goods you want to purchase

You may need to provide additional information if the documents above don’t show regular payments for your utility, rent and other expenses.

Staff at the Freedom Centre will assist with advice and suggestions about the information the loan assessor will be wanting to see with your application. However, the Freedom Centre staff do not assess your loan or make the decision to approve or decline the application.

If you would like to know more about NILS loans or you would like an application form, you can drop in to the Freedom Centre or send an email to nils@salvationarmy.org.au

You can also visit Salvos NILS for more information.

Please remember, Salvos NILS relies on the repayment of loans to enable us to continue providing NILS to other members of the community.
