Exploring The Salvation Army Classes
Classes begin this Sunday!

These classes are similar to 'Soldiership' classes and have the potential to lead people towards soldiership or adherency, however, there is no obligation to become a solider or adherent after completing the course. It is a way to learn more about Salvation Army Doctrines and the lifestyle commitments that are influenced by our doctrines. It's a great way to understand more about what we believe and why.

Sarah and Kylie will be running these classes (6 in total) on Sunday afternoons from 2pm-4pm. The dates are as follows: 19 June, 26 June, 3 July, 24 July, 7 August, 14 August.

Please chat to Kylie or Sarah if you would like to be part of these classes!

Refugee Week
Every year, in Australia, Refugee Week is scheduled during the week that includes 20 June, which is World Refugee Day.

Refugee Week is an opportunity to:
• Connect with, welcome and support people who are new to Australia
• Discover and celebrate the contributions refugees bring to Australia
• Educate ourselves about the issues that affect refugees and listen to the stories of
those seeking asylum
• Elevate the voice of refugees in Australia

The theme for Refugee Week this year is ‘Healing’, and The Salvation Army in Parramatta is committed to building healthy communities. In 2022, as we celebrate Refugee Week, we join with refugee communities to journey towards healing together.

To celebrate Refugee Week, the National Intercultural and All Abilities team is hosting an online national prayer meeting on Wednesday 22 June at 7pm. If you're interested in attending the event to join in prayer and support people who are seeking safety from persecution and war you can register here: https://salvationarmy.typeform.com/RW-Prayer2022
Community Visitors Scheme - Celebrating 30 years
This week, CVS volunteers gathered to celebrate 30 years of this program that has operated out of Parramatta Corps.

30 years ago, a new funding opportunity was offered by the federal government and Parramatta Corps submitted a successful application! The program started under the leadership of Mavis Salt. Over the 30 years, Mavis, Annette Duncan and Leanne Coia have taken the role of of 'coordinator', recruiting, training and placing many volunteers as visitors for older Aussies who were isolated. Volunteers spend time connecting with these older people - building great friendships and providing valuable company.

We are so grateful for this program and the impact it has on the lives of older persons in our community. To all our current volunteers, and those who have volunteered over the years, we say THANK YOU! And we say a special thanks to our current coordinator, Leanne Coia, who has been in her role for 17 years! It has been a tough couple of years with covid, but we are excited to see the program back in full swing as aged-care facilities begin to open to visitors once again.
Health Concerns
There are a number of people from within our corps community who are experiencing health challenges at this time; please continue to pray for Margaret Robinson, Doreen Salt, Jon Griffin and Dianna Flood.
