Parramatters - 10th June 2022

Hi Parramatta Salvos, 

This week I attended an online meeting with people I had never met and didn't know. Right at the commencement of the meeting I was asked to introduce myself, and the person said to me, "Kylie, who are you?". I responded with my name  and then said I am.... I am an officer, a corps officer at Parramatta, I am married to Dave, I am a mum to two sons... I am...

On Sunday we commence a new series titled I AM, and over the next six weeks we will be looking at the different I am statements of Jesus:
I am the Bread of Life
I am the Light of the World
I am the Good Shepherd
I am the Resurrection and the Life
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life
I am the True Vine

At certain times of our lives and faith journeys these statements will resonate with us in different ways but we invite you to join with us as we consider what they mean for us today both individually and as a faith community.

Major Kylie Collinson
Kylie is on leave this weekend and will be returning to the office on Tuesday 14th June.

Community Event - VIVID
Everyone is invited to our Vivid Community Event on 17 June. We will be leaving Parramatta Corps at 6:30pm to spend the evening together in lit-up Sydney! We will be catching the train into the city from Parramatta Station. Bring your Opal card and some money if you want to get dinner or snacks there. Please let Sarah or Jayne know if you're coming and where you'll be meeting us at. Eg. at Parramatta Salvos, Parramatta Station or in the City. 

Bands in the Round: Sydney
All are invited to join for Bands in the Round on Saturday 18 June from 1:30pm-5pm at Parramatta Salvos. All funds raised will support music ministries in PNG. There will also be afternoon tea, drinks and trade displays. 

Divisional Men's Camp
Arise divisional mens camp is happening at the Collaroy Centre from Friday 22 July-Sunday 24 July. All men over the age of 18 are welcome to attend! You can register at: https://salvationarmy.typeform.com/AriseMens2022

Flourish
All women are invited to attend our next Flourish event on Saturday 25 June from 3pm-5pm at Parramatta Salvos. This will be a 'High Tea' event costing $15pp and Melissa Monteiro is the special guest. Melissa is the CEO of the Community Migrant Resource Centre; she will be sharing about her life, moving from India to Australia, and her work. Registrations are now open, envelopes are available in the foyer or you can register online.

Exploring The Salvation Army Classes
We are pleased to announce that we will be running Exploring The Salvation Army classes at Parramatta Salvos. These classes are similar to 'Soldiership' classes and have the potential to lead people towards soldiership or adherency, however, there is no obligation to become a solider or adherent after completing the course. It is a way to learn more about Salvation Army Doctrines and the lifestyle commitments that are influenced by our doctrines. It's a great way to understand more about what we believe and why. 

Sarah and Kylie will be running these classes (6 in total) on Sunday afternoons from 2pm-4pm. The dates are as follows: 19 June, 26 June, 3 July, 24 July, 7 August, 14 August.

Donations for Craft Group
Our craft group is seeking donations of wool, knitting needles, crotchet hooks or and other craft supplies or tools. Currently some of the ladies are making caps for babies and beanies for older kids which will be donated to Westmead Hospital and a charity in Penrith. Please drop donations at reception or contact Denise Thomas. 

Donations for Connect Site
Our Connect Site is always in need of clean plastic or enviro bags to use when we are distributing food and other goods to our community members, this is an ongoing request. If you have any bags please drop them into reception at any time .

Red Shield Appeal and Bake Sale
We are pleased to let you know that to date we have now raised $38,000 for the Red Shield Appeal!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Bake Sale last Sunday where we raised $470. It was a fun red morning and we appreciated everyone getting involved.
