Good ‘ol family farm holiday

WHEN: 5 November 2014
WHERE: Old Leura Dairy, Blue Mountains

Late last month the Oasis Young Parents Program (YPP) offered 6 young families the opportunity time away from the city to enjoy the Blue Mountains and each other’s company. The camp was attended by 7 parents and 9 children, and held at the beautiful and rustic Old Leura Dairy.

Nestled amongst the mountains and bursting with spring flowers at this time of year, each family was provided their own room or small cottage. Coming together for meals, movie nights and a pamper evening in the biggest cottage, the camp allowed the families to spend quality time away together in a peaceful and safe environment, as well as the opportunity for relaxation and pampering for the parents.

With activities were held throughout the day, with something for everyone to enjoy whilst taking in the history and serenity of the magnificent Blue Mountains. The pizza and pampering night was a hit with each parent receiving a “pamper pack” filled with luxurious donations from supporters of Oasis. As the evening wrapped up the majority of parents, children and staff had lovely colourful nails and smiles from ear to ear!

The camp was a real success and parents were extremely grateful for the experience – one participant stated, “I wish I could just live here all the time …all I would change is a better antenna for phone reception!” Most importantly the camp gave families and staff in the group an opportunity to get to know each other better and the children opportunities to experience something positive in an enriching environment.

The camp was made possible by a generous donation and provided a unique opportunity for disadvantaged inner city families to relax, connect and receive support in a peaceful natural environment.
