Bushfire update: Western Australia

10th February 2014 - Salvation Army crews have been called back to a fire in the Jandakot region to provide further support to local fire crews.

Currently, 22 emergency service personnel are being supported and The Salvation Army will remain on site for as long as required.

Financial Support
Financial donations to the Perth Hills Bushfire Appeal currently stand at over $300,000, after the appeal was launched in January.

The Salvation Army, has to date, given financial assistance to 54 families to the value of $40,000. Approximately another 30 families have been assisted in the form of the provision of food, toiletries and clothing until they could get back to their homes safely.

In total, 103 adults and 41 children under the age of 16 years old have been assisted so far following the devastating January fires.

7th February 2014
Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) are currently assisting at a fire which has burnt through several hundred hectares south of Perth affecting the suburbs of Banjup, Aubin Grove and Atwell in the cities of Cockburn, Forrestdale and Armadale.

Six houses have been damaged along with a number of sheds, buildings and fences. On the first night of the fire (Monday 3 February) SAES fed dinner and refreshments to over 600 emergency service personnel.

In the week since this fire started WA SAES have:

• Deployed 85 volunteers who have given 555.5 hours of time
• Provided approximately 3030 meals around the clock
• The Salvation Army will remain on site until conditions change.

23rd January 2014
We have now concluded our emergency services to firefighters and in five days, we have provided over 11,000 meals. The next phase of support is to establish a point of assistance from which financial and other support can be provided. We are working with other agencies and government departments to assist where required.

The Salvation Army has set aside $60,000 for emergency financial payments which, when combined with other financial aid, will provide very meaningful support to those affected. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to provide a consistent support presence ready to assist with a range of needs. The Salvation Army are committed to providing support through to full recovery.
