Westcare's Student Unit

Westcare’s Student Unit was established in 2008. The Student Unit provides a co-ordinated response to all student enquiries and placements. Students are matched appropriately to the variety of services provided by Westcare including Residential Services, Case Management Services, Transitional Services and Foster Care Services for children and young people.


Westcare has well established partnerships with a range of tertiary institutions including Victoria University, RMIT, Monash University and Kangan Institute.

We provide placements for students who are undertaking studies in the following areas:

  • Cert IV in Youth Work
  • Cert IV in Protective Care
  • Diploma in Youth Work
  • Diploma in Community Welfare
  • Degree in Youth Work
  • Degree in Social Work
  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery

Westcare prides itself on providing high quality placements to students, broadening their experience of working in the out-of-home care sector. Westcare provides up to 15 student placements annually. Many of our students have been successful in gaining employment with our service after completion of their placement.

PLEASE NOTE: Before applying to participate in a Student Placement Program with Westcare, please make sure you have a valid Police Check and a valid Working With Children Check. Without these, your application process cannot procede. Please have these documents before applying.
