On the 9th March over 60 families with children aged 0-5 years attended the Brighton Early Years event  at the Brighton Civic Centre.  This event had a key focus on fun with gross motor skills, an important aspect of children’s development. National children entertainers, “The Gigalees” performed circus skills that featured juggling, acrobatic feats , music and comedy that led to many giggles, smiles and laughter from families.

Children also enjoyed other activities at the event, including face painting, and climbing and crawling in the Bridgwater PCYC’s Toddler Gym.

Lots of service providers were present at this free event, which provided families with information covering many early years’ programs. These services included CHaPS, Launching into Learning (LiL) programs from Brighton, East Derwent and Gagebrook Primary Schools. Save the Children, Uniting Tasmania, tagari lia Child and Family Centre, Red Cross, Oral Health, and The Smith Family.

Healthy food options and information based on the Food Cents philosophy were provided at this event. Teresa Bricknell, from Food Cents focused on providing families with healthy food options produced on a budget.

Communities for Children were lucky enough to have two wonderful tooth fairies from the Jordan River Senior School in attendance to help children create oral health craft activities. The event would not have been as successful without the invaluable support of these tooth fairies and other volunteers.

The Brighton Early Years event was made possible with support from the following services: The Salvation Army - Communities for Children, B4 5 Community Partners and funding from the Brighton Council.
