"I don’t remember much about our time at The Salvation Army crisis centre – I was just a child. But I remember home. Where I would often lie in bed and hide until I heard the fighting stop. I was so scared I would have to be the one to call the police again. I also had to worry about when and how my brother and I were going to eat each day.

Imagine my pain and guilt when 20 years later I became that mum sitting at the police station with my two babies – homeless, and afraid for my children and myself.

I would like to tell people that at Christmas something as simple as giving a hamper to a family in need, is huge. It also gives Hope." Shyla
