Academic study can be one of the most formative experiences of training for officership.

Yes, it may be a challenge but it’s a worthwhile one. You will have the opportunity to explore God’s character and consider God’s plans for the world. New insights will emerge in your understanding of the Scripture and how this relates to your life and ministry.

You will complete a number of mandatory units that include biblical studies, theological studies and ministry theory and practice. These have been carefully chosen to give you a solid foundation for ministry in a variety of contexts.

Our Academic subjects are taught through our Higher Education Stream at EBC and all awards are completed under the jurisdiction of the University of Divinity. Our experienced, qualified and mission-minded team will do all they can to help you flourish and learn. We want you to grow spiritually as you embrace the discipline of study.

If you have not studied since high school we will guide you through appropriate subjects and help you learn well.

If you already have a degree, we will also guide you through an appropriate pathway of study that will build on your previous educational history.

We aim to help you build a body of knowledge and practical skills that will equip you for ministry in The Salvation Army, now and into the future.

Podcast

More About Officership is an ongoing conversation about calling, leadership, and ministry in The Salvation Army.

The goals of this podcast is to encourage and equip leaders for ministry.

Application Process

If you would like to apply to become an Officer, there are three stages that you will progress through:

  1. Expression of Interest
  2. Application
  3. Assessment

An Officer Recruitment Secretary will help guide you through each stage. Officer Formation staff will then support you through training, and upon your commissioning, you will receive ongoing support as part of a first-five-years program.
