I had a drug addiction for about thirty years and was classified as homeless.
I was encouraged to go along to The Salvation Army centre known as Streetlevel in Fortitude Valley. I really felt valued, accepted and loved by the people there.
I started volunteering at Streetlevel and this lead to a paid position as a Community Engagement Worker and now help run the ‘Journey to Independent Living’ course. I was so excited to be given this opportunity helping and encouraging others and showing by example that people can change.
I don’t know where I would be without Streetlevel & my growing faith in God. With the support and encouragement from Streetlevel I have been clean from my previous lifestyle and am now living in a comfortable one bedroom apartment.
Your support can help change lives like mine!
I first heard about Streetlevel when I was homeless.
They offered services and a course called ‘Journey to Independent Living’. I went along and after completing the course I found and have maintained housing.
This course and the Streetlevel family restored faith in me to improve my life. I now volunteer at Streetlevel and have a place where I feel safe and independent and free.
I was introduced to Streetlevel and it has done amazing things for me. It has helped me realise that there are still caring people in this world no matter what I've done in my past.
I have become a caretaker of the boarding house and I am finding great satisfaction in helping others. I believe Streetlevel is a place where people can get some assistance to guide them down the path of reintegrating back into everyday life.
Coming to Streetlevel stops me from isolating myself which has been a major problem for me in the past. By making a commitment to volunteer it gives me a sense of purpose.
What I like about Streetlevel is the sense of non-judgemental community where everyone is welcomed in an open friendly way.
