New Life Skill Training

28 May 2010

The Salvation Army Bellarine Peninsula has been in operation for nearly five months. In that time we've asked loads of questions to locals connected with schools, businesses, churches and social groups around the peninsula.  We have been trying to find out the greatest need facing the community, which isn't aready being met by other services etc. We have discovered that knowing and understanding How to Handle Stress is a major issue, with little support.

Many things in life cause stress. There's the obvious, like a continual sound of a baby crying, or being bullied online. However there's also other subtle things like the loss of a family member, change of staff at work, separation with a spouse, or losing a job. How do we cope when changes like these come into our lives? Do we react or respond, withdraw or explode, do we give up or do we give out?

With the alarming rates of suicide in our community we realise it's time to teach people basic principles on how to handle stress. We have decided to set up a mobile training centre which can come to you, and offer the service in your own town. So whether you're in Drysdale or Ocean Grove, to Leopold to Queenscliff, any part of the Peninsula we can come to you.
