The Geelong Withdrawal Unit

The Geelong Withdrawal Unit is a 12 bed, community based, residential drug and alcohol withdrawal unit and a 2 bed residential, independent living program.  The Unit offers a recovery program that consists of up to three stages.

Stage one of the program is a 6 to 7 day residential stay for adults seeking to withdraw from alcohol and or other drugs in a safe and supportive environment.  Stage two of the program consists of a further 3 week residential stay to enable people to stabilise following withdrawal.  Stage three offers a further 12 week stay in an independent living house, located close to the Unit. The program is open to men and women over the age of 18 years, who are medically and psychiatrically stable and are not pregnant.  People may be referred to the program by their health care worker or Doctor, or self refer.

Provides Home Based Outreach to people with a diagnosed mental illness. This program aims to reduce isolation, assist with learning or re-learning the activities of daily living, the development of social skills and the facilitation of access to community services.

KMHS also offers a number of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Day Programs that vary in structure from drop in to specific courses. The aim of the Day programs is to create a sense of belonging to a community, provide peer support and an atmosphere where a range of social and daily living skills can be learnt.

The Post Withdrawal Linkages Support program provides advocacy, support, outreach and referrals to individuals during and following their withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.  The program also offers facilitated groups to people in the community, as well as support to individuals and their families.  The program is based at the Geelong Withdrawal Unit.

Bridgelink Women's Alcohol and Drug Supported Accommodation Program

Offers support to women over 18 with drug and / or alcohol related issues who want to make positive changes in their lifestyle. The program's client centred approach to service delivery ensures that service is based on the development of a trusting relationship and each client is encouraged to participate in the development of their own individual treatment plan.

Children's Support Worker

Crisis Accommodation Program

Provides, when possible, short term accommodation for up to six weeks and transitional housing up to 13 weeks, for women with or without children who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. During this time Case Management is used to identify goals and women are encouraged to examine options addressing housing and other issues.

Young Parents Outreach Program

Provides a range of services to young women aged 15 to 20 years, who are pregnant or parenting and require support related to parenting issues, homelessness or housing difficulties. Transitional housing for up to 13 weeks is provided where possible. Staff take a holistic approach, focusing on the individual needs of the client to achieve the maximum possible degree of self reliance and independence.
