Personal Testimony - Robyn Lorimer
In December 1989, I received a phone call that I believe changed my life. Rod Reeve (then leader of the MSS) called me to say that my audition for the Melbourne Staff Songsters had been successful and would I like to join the group.
I think I deafened him with my response, certainly all of those in the office where I worked wondered what had caused such a response, but I never thought an opportunity like this would ever come my way. It is something that I have never and will never take for granted.
Over the years of being in the MSS I feel God has used me in many ways, and even though fear has sometimes played a part in these experiences I know he has never left me and has always equipped me for the part he wants me to play. God has often been revealed to me in a spoken word or a verse of a song. This experience then stays with me in my journey and has been at times, used when sharing with folk in my work life, Corps life (Waverley) and family life.
Many people in the group have encouraged me and helped me in my development and this is where I must thank Rod Reeve. He gave me an opportunity to be and do something that I never thought I could ever do. He showed a faith in me that I will always be grateful for. His service to the MSS and God is to be commended and many of us today are in this group because of the encouragement and support that he gave to us.
I have had many opportunities both in Australia and Overseas to share the word of God with people through music, what a privilege this has been. From the smallest country corps to the main city corps, Gods word can be communicated through music.
Being in this group is like my second family. They have been with me during the happy times, and have also supported me in the times when life was not so happy. Our current leader Brian Hogg is fantastic and has been a great support to all of us as individuals.
We work hard to learn our music and movements (that's really good for a laugh) and we have lots of fun, but we are always reminded through our music that Gods love is always with us, and in every experience he will guide us and help us on our journey.
One of the songs we currently sing is :
He will see you through, he's promised
He will see you through
He will be for you, a refuge
He will see you through.
He will be your peace in the night
He will be your strength in the fight
He will see you through, He loves you
He will see you through.
This is my prayer for each person who reads this testimony. God can use us in many different ways. For me he is using me in the Melbourne Staff Songsters. How is God using you ?
