Personal Testimony - Marilyn Hewitt

Hi,

I’m Marilyn Hewitt and as you will be able to tell from my name I am one of the ‘older’ members of the MSS and have been a part of the group since its beginning! 

I have really loved being involved in the MSS and the opportunities it has brought me.  I firmly believe that we are given opportunities throughout our lives that we need to take up or we miss out on the blessings that God has for us.  I have found that in believing that God will be with me, whatever comes my way, that this has made me trust Him even more.

I remember some 25 years ago that I was asked to become the ‘YPSM’  (or leader of the young peoples’ area of my local Greensborough Salvo church) and I really did not believe that I had the expertise or skills to do this task, but I prayed about it and ‘worried’ about it, but was given a confirmation in my heart that this was what I should do.  So with much fear and nervousness I accepted the responsibility and believe that I was able to do the task because I relied on God to help me do it!

More recent than that – 10 years ago – I was firmly challenged when I discovered that I had cancer – which would involve an operation and chemotherapy – and with the prayer support of those within my church, the MSS family – my own family, friends, and many others – I accepted what was to be and God really stayed with me and encouraged me.  Time and time again I was shown in the Bible – yes – just by saying ‘God I really need a verse to help me now’  - and by just opening the bible – there was always something so relevant for me for that day. 
I have learned over the years that even though I am a bit of a ‘worrier’, that there is always a ‘Plan B’ – if things go wrong there is always an alternative solution.

Since being in the MSS family – and yes that is what we are – I have been blessed so many times within this country and also in tours overseas.  Singing with like-minded people who are passionate about bringing people into the presence of God has brought me also closer to Him.

The songs that we sing – and the variety of styles included – mean that we fervently hope to reach all ages with the message of the love of Jesus.

Two of my very favorite verses of the Bible are found in Romans 8: 38/39
‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord’.
