Causes of Homelessness
More than one woman dies each week as a result of domestic violence in Australia and it’s the number one reason women and children access homelessness services.
Everyone’s situation is different, and circumstances can change overnight. An unexpected bill, a sudden job loss, illness or payment cut – any number of factors can affect the ability to make ends meet.
Homelessness can affect anyone. It also takes many forms – living in overcrowded conditions, sleeping on a friend’s couch or roughing it in your car.
Few lives are untouched by the major social problems associated with alcohol and drugs today. Addiction affects people from all walks of life.
Young people in particular are impacted by homelessness, making up 42 per cent of the Australian homeless population.
