Clothing and goods

When your kids outgrow their toys, you downsize your wardrobe, move offices, or decide to declutter, those items you can live without can make an enormous difference to someone else’s life.

By donating your unwanted goods, you’re not only giving a once loved item another life, you are helping us give hope where it’s needed most. Our Salvos Stores and op shops specialise in reselling donated goods to help fund vital services and activities run by The Salvation Army.

What can I donate?

The best things to donate are things that you would be happy to keep using yourself but just don't need anymore, including:

  • Clothing and accessories
  • Toys, books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records
  • Homewares
  • Furniture
  • Electrical goods

What can’t I donate?

It costs The Salvation Army millions of dollars each year to dispose of unsellable items that have been left outside our stores.

Please don't donate anything that is broken, damaged, ripped, stained or in any way faulty. As a simple rule, if there's something wrong with it then we can't sell it.

We also can't accept:

  • Computer monitors, printers, scanners and other hardware
  • Building materials
  • Car parts
  • Weapons – including replicas and martial arts weapons
  • Taxidermy animals

Not all our Salvos Stores or op shops are the same. Some are larger and can accept larger items, while other smaller stores may not be able to. Sometimes, there are government regulations around certain items that mean we can’t accept them. We encourage you to call your local Salvos op shop to discuss your donation of:

  • Furniture
  • White goods
  • Mattresses

Please make sure that you deliver your donation during business hours so that it can be safely received. It’s illegal to leave goods outside stores after hours as it creates a public hazard. Rain can also damage donations left outside, resulting in us having to dispose of them.

If you have large items that you can't deliver yourself, please call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) visit the Salvos Stores website, or contact your local Salvos op shop to arrange a collection.
