The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of homelessness services, and community and social support networks. It has operated in Australia for more than 130 years and has a long and proud history of working with the most disadvantaged and marginalised individuals and communities.
Of great concern to The Salvation Army are the results of systemic and ongoing disadvantage, which diminish the wellbeing and hope of individuals and communities. Disadvantage and poverty lead to deprivation, limited capabilities and a lack of opportunities that cause marginalisation for individuals within the community.
The Salvation Army is at the front line, responding to disadvantage on a daily basis, and it sees firsthand the devastating and long lasting effects of entrenched poverty. While it is evident that cost savings and efficiencies are required in a challenging fiscal environment, The Salvation Army continues to advocate for a fair and equitable approach. The needs of vulnerable and marginalised Australians require careful consideration by the Australian Government.
