Homeless crisis in Wellington Square
A lack of dialysis services and medical treatment options in regional Western Australia is forcing dozens of people to travel to Perth for treatment. Many of them are ending up homeless due to a lack of affordable accommodation options, and The Salvation Army is working to assist this growing group of people.
The Salvation Army operate street teams three nights a week in Perth. These teams engage with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and provide practical care (in the form of blankets or hot drinks) and also seek to assist them into accommodation.
"We will never ever stop doing all we can to help those who do not want to be in this situation," says Kris Halliday, Salvation Army officer and street outreach worker.
