Media Release - The Beacon Funding
20th January 2017
Homelessness service receives boost of 25 additional beds!
The Salvation Army is delighted to confirm the announcement from The State Government of Western Australia today of a further $250,000 per year in funding. This will facilitate a further 25 beds being opened at “The Beacon” homelessness service in Northbridge and take the total beds at this facility from 77 to 102.
The funding commitment is for three years which will enable not only an additional 25 beds, but additional staff that will ensure strong case management. This will allow us to reduce the case load for other staff therefore improving outcomes as well as continuing to build a comprehensive wrap around service adding value to the investment.
Of the 25 new beds, 20 will be for crisis and transitional needs and 5 beds available to the Perth City Homelessness Response Pilot which is expanding into a new “Rest Stop” service.
Major Neil Venables, Divisional Commander said “We welcome this announcement which will provide greater capacity and more opportunities for people to find a pathway out of homelessness. We are extremely grateful to The State Government of Western Australia who have been receptive to our request and have responded positively.”
“In addition to the State Government commitment , we also need to acknowledge the community of Western Australia for their continued support through The Red Shield Appeal which provides significant support to this service. This outcome today is a perfect example of where the issue of homelessness needs to be owned by all of us with all levels of our community contributing to a response.” Major Neil Venables said.
The Salvation Army reaffirms its resolve and determination in providing our best in our services that empowers collaboration within and through the entire social services sector and delivers on positive outcomes for individuals and community.
