Today one of Westcare's Residential Units opened its door to all staff in celebration of all the achievements made by its young people.
While staff were arriving, a traditional Hangi meal was being prepared. The Maori style feast was a credit to the unit's shift co-ordinator, Mose.
An outdoor fire provided some much needed warmth against the icy breeze- where staff comfortably watched on from as the boys brought lunch from the pit to the table.
In true Westcare style, both staff and young people joined together over a meal.
A live band came along to the open day and kindly shared their time to play for the afternoon.
However, the unit was drawn to a standstill when a resident performed a 3- song set with the band. Her cover of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" saw the unit burst into rapturous applause and brought tears to the eyes of her very proud mother.
Residential Manager Paul Rigg reflected on the unit's dedication in working to provide the best outcomes for their young people. With a very palpable sense of community spirit spread throughout the unit and a fabulous showcase of one young woman's vocal talent- it wasn't hard to see where Paul was coming from.
