On the 27th of April to the 3rd of May, Peter Mulholland was joined with Indonesian officials to share knowledge about young people in child protection in Australia.
The representatives from Indonesia included Captain Owlyn Sumampouw, Divisional Head on Legal & Child Protection in The Salvation Army’s Indonesia Territory, 6 representatives from Mawar Saron and 3 Indonesian Government officials.
Mawar Saron, a legal aid firm in Indonesia, is currently in the process of writing recommendations to prompt legislative changes for juvenile justice clients.
Director of Mawar Saron John Pattiwael and his team researched how Child Protection operates in Australia.
During their Australian visit, the officials visited Westcare and were guided by Peter to the Police Multidisciplinary Centre and The Salvation Army Southern Territory Headquarters. They also had meetings at The Children’s Court.
John Pattiwael will return to Australia in December to visit Department of Health and Human Services, Parkville Youth Training Centre, Children’s Court and Child Services.
