The Salvation Army's child sponsorship programme assists thousands of needy children in developing countries around the world.
Your sponsorship of $25 per month allows The Salvation Army to provide these children with direct assistance of food, medicine, housing, clothing, and education. The funds are sent to Salvation Army officers who provide the children with a warm, safe, spiritual environment in community centres, mission hospitals, schools and village churches.
Sponsors receive a photograph of the child they are supporting, and a profile that includes the child's name, date of birth, a brief family history and present circumstances along with a statement of any special need the youngster may have.
Twice each year you should receive news from your child, as well as a Child Sponsorship newsletter. You can also correspond with your child through our Melbourne headquarters. The Salvation Army deducts only 10% per month to help us partially offset the costs of bank fees, postage, and staff.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to currency exchange and other issues, we can only accept sponsors from Australia at this time. We thank our international visitors for your care and desire to assist.
Myanmar (Burma) after Cyclone Nargis Update
Current information is that the children of both the Yangon Boys' Home and the Yangon Girls' Home are safe. We are yet to receive specific information regarding the children of the tuition programmes but are hopeful for their safety as most are located in areas to the north of the worst affected areas.
Yangon Boys' Home
This recently constructed building stood up well to the winds with minimal roof damage. As the Regional Headquarters was completely deroofed the Boys' Home will temporarily house the offices of Regional Headquarters.
Yangon Girls' Home
The damage suffered by the home was mostly limited to the roof of the food storage area. All rice stored in this area was subsequently cooked and distributed to those in need.
Both homes have artesian wells which are providing clean water, not only for the children but for members of the local community who are coming to the compound for assistance.
Please join us in praying for the children of Myanmar, their families, and local Salvationists who will be serving in many ways over the coming months.

If this occurs, we ask for your understanding in allowing us to select another child for you from amongst the profiles of children which are sent to us from sponsorship secretaries around the world.
