DISCUSSION PAPER.....
Paul Borden makes the following observations about an officer's "job description"....
1. Officers are leaders.
Therefore officers do the following:
-
They are the keepers of the mission and casters of the vision.
-
They preach the Word of God well.
-
They are the major fundraiser for the vision and mission.
-
They are the ultimate recruiter of people for the vision and mission.
2. Officers develop leaders.
Therefore officers do the following:
-
They develop staff members to be leaders who develop leaders.
-
They develop team members to be leaders who develop leaders.
-
They are constantly developing a pool of leaders from the congregation, who are trained to lead and develop new leaders.

The list could of course go on. The number of books that are on the market today are overwhelming. (Check out this link for some of the GHC Network recommendations).
What is important is that if you are a leader you do have an understanding of what your role and responsibilities are - but more importantly you have ownership of these! What is your personal mission statement? Its not necessary to have one on the wall - but it is necessary to have one in your heart, so you know what you are really on about! Otherwise, its very easy to drift and be carried along by the events of life - rather than being the leader you need to be!
The leader is the organization’s top strategist... systematically envisioning the future and specifically mapping out how to get there.
