Street Warriors - Project 614

Project 614 volunteers 

Unlike most kids who are fresh out of high school, this group of youth (pictured above) have put their social calendars on hold for a whole year, to volunteer with The Salvation Army in Melbourne.

Each volunteer gives up a year of their life to work with The Salvation Army primarily working with the homeless and with the city’s most marginalised

These volunteers, who we refer to as ‘The Order’, are our street warriors, stepping out of their comfort zones to join Salvation Army Officers and employees in the mission to better the lives of others. It’s not an easy task; every day they meet people suffering severe trauma, isolation, ill health and distress. It takes a special kind of strength to commit to a cause like this.

Each year The Salvation Army at Project 614 in Bourke Street, Melbourne, advertise for 20-25 volunteers to join their crusade to bridge the gap between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’. The fundamental principle of 614 is to restore broken lives with practical and emotional help.
