Walking Home 2010 builds on the success of the 2009 inaugural event…with a difference! In 2010, we’ve reshaped Walking Home as a one-day public event. Every member of the community is invited to join us as we walk. Together we can truly “walk the talk” and raise awareness and understanding of homelessness. At the same time, we will raise funds for this very worthy cause.
You can choose from four distances, depending on your fitness level and time availability. Whatever your distance, you will walk alongside dedicated representatives
We will focus our attention on homelessness, share our understanding and acknowledge our support. There will be food vans, information booths and plenty to keep us entertained and educated.
This is a family-friendly event, so come one, come all! Registration fees depend on distance to be covered. You can walk from the nominated starting point at Queenscliff, or join in along the way. When: Saturday 13 November 2010 To and from:
“Walking Home” is an initiative of housing workers representing government and private not-for-profit service providers in the Barwon South Western region. In November 2009 over a 5 day period, 20 representatives from various agencies will walk the 189km from Warrnambool to Geelong. They will literally “walk the talk” about homelessness, uniting in one event to engage and educate the communities which they serve.

To raise awareness and understanding of homelessness issues within the Barwon South Western region. “As we walk together, we challenge ourselves and our communities - to take ownership for understanding, improving and preventing homelessness. There is a better way. We challenge you to create it. On this journey we seek to support the creation and delivery of resources and services to prevent and end homelessness.” As a cross-agency initiative, Walking Home brings together a diverse range of service providers in one voice to “bust some of the myths” around homelessness. By improving awareness about homelessness issues in the Barwon South Western region, the Walking Home team aims to set a platform for local networks, services and communities to work together. Walking Home symbolizes the partnership and commitment these agencies share in supporting, advocating and representing the most vulnerable, marginalized and disadvantaged members of our communities. At the end of their journey, the Walking Home team has homes to go to – thousands of Australians do not.
Walking Home is a demanding event that requires physical and mental preparation. It’s no walk in the park! Ann Cramp of Geelong’s Gym has designed a Training Program which you can access at Geelongs Gym Website
