Child Sponsorship

TOP.JPG

The Salvation Army's child sponsorship programme assists thousands of needy children in developing countries around the world.

Your sponsorship of $25 per month allows The Salvation Army to provide these children with direct assistance of food, medicine, housing, clothing, and education. The funds are sent to Salvation Army officers who provide the children with a warm, safe, spiritual environment in community centres, mission hospitals, schools and village churches.

Sponsors receive a photograph of the child they are supporting, and a profile that includes the child's name, date of birth, a brief family history and present circumstances along with a statement of any special need the youngster may have.

Twice each year you should receive news from your child, as well as a Child Sponsorship newsletter. You can also correspond with your child through our Melbourne headquarters. The Salvation Army deducts only 10% per month to help us partially offset the costs of bank fees, postage, and staff.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to currency exchange and other issues, we can only accept sponsors from Australia at this time. We thank our international visitors for your care and desire to assist.

Discretionary Sponsorship is an opportunity to support an entire Salvation Army Children's Home or Community Centre. You can, with others, support one of the following schools for $25 per month in a group style sponsorship

Kenya

Likoni School for the Blind

The Likoni School for the Blind is beautifully situated on the mouth of the harbour in Mombasa, the main city of the coastal area of Kenya, on the shores of the Indian Ocean.  The school plays a leading role in seeing to the welfare of partially sighted, totally blind and multi-handicapped children. Albino children have very specific needs as their eyesight deteriorates early and they are very susceptible to multiple and aggressive forms of skin cancer and Likoni School endeavors to provide treatments for all the children in their care.

Your sponsorship of $25 a month will help provide food, school fees, medical costs and educational materials for these children.  As the children come from extremely poor families and the cost of medical treatment is high, the need for financial assistance is great.

Dandora Phase V Project

This centre is a church (Corps) based community project. It cares for over 200 pre school children affected by extreme poverty or the AIDS virus.  Many are orphans.    The families are extremely poor. The HIV/AIDS programme is community based        and  not funded.  Volunteer workers help with visitation, escort/carry to hospital,         and Kids Club and feeding programme when operative.  The Officer managers          build bridges with the parents, support them to attend the assessment centre and          the  doctors.  The women make beaded jewellery for sale to help with the costs of running the nursery.

The Isiolo Project

Isiolo is in the north eastern area of Kenya. It is the furthest point that The Salvation Army has penetrated, and is about 400kms from the border with Ethiopia.
Isiolo is an arid area, dependent on rain for the crops and thus for the economic wellbeing of the people.
Our presence is small but enthusiastic and growing. The CSM, Reuben, is blind and was 'found' by The Salvation Army many years ago and was educated in one of our schools for the blind. He is about 70 years old and runs the unofficial Corps under a tree and in his own home in the village.
He teaches the children to recite Bible verse and teaches them to sing accompanied on his accordion.

These children are currently in need of sponsors, but we occasionally receive multiple sponsors for the same child simultaneously. If this occurs, we ask for your understanding in allowing us to select another child for you from amongst the profiles of children which are sent to us from sponsorship secretaries around the world.
