Child Sponsorship

TOP.JPG

The Salvation Army's child sponsorship programme assists thousands of needy children in developing countries around the world.

Your sponsorship of $25 per month allows The Salvation Army to provide these children with direct assistance of food, medicine, housing, clothing, and education. The funds are sent to Salvation Army officers who provide the children with a warm, safe, spiritual environment in community centres, mission hospitals, schools and village churches.

Sponsors receive a photograph of the child they are supporting, and a profile that includes the child's name, date of birth, a brief family history and present circumstances along with a statement of any special need the youngster may have.

Twice each year you should receive news from your child, as well as a Child Sponsorship newsletter. You can also correspond with your child through our Melbourne headquarters. The Salvation Army deducts only 10% per month to help us partially offset the costs of bank fees, postage, and staff.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to currency exchange and other issues, we can only accept sponsors from Australia at this time. We thank our international visitors for your care and desire to assist.

Yangon Boys' Home, Myanmar

The roof of the home was damaged during savage cyclone Nargis and Yangon Boys' Home will require additional support over the coming months for repairs and to cope with the increased numbers of children needing help. Your $25 a month will help rebuild the roof and repair and replace damaged items and enable the staff to cater for the needs of the boys who seek security and care within its walls.

Discretionary Sponsorship is an opportunity to support an entire Salvation Army Children's Home or Community Centre. You can, with others, support one of the following schools for $25 per month in a group style sponsorship

Brazil

Vila Dos Pescadores Community Centre

Vila dos Pescadores (or Fisherman's Village) is a shanty town where the majority of the inhabitants live in poorly constructed houses built on stilts over a badly polluted swamp. Your support of this centre will assist in the provision of educational materials, a daily meal and health benefits such as immunizations and eye sight checks.

 Haiti

Luly School is in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere where 1 in 5 children do not survive their fifth year. The average wage in Haiti is around $US 2 a day and many familes can not afford the cost of education. Your sponsorship of $25 a month will combine with other sponsor's funds to make a world of difference to the students of Luly School.

These children are currently in need of sponsors, but we occasionally receive multiple sponsors for the same child simultaneously. If this occurs, we ask for your understanding in allowing us to select another child for you from amongst the profiles of children which are sent to us from sponsorship secretaries around the world.
